Thomas Heniff : Superior Performance

Unlike many area Hall of Famers, Tom did not bowl his way through all of  the age divisions in youth bowling.  After bowling one year he quit to participate in other sports in high school, baseball, football, and wrestling. Then while attending Joliet Junior College, Tom bowled in the Teacher's League with his mom, who is still an avid bowler in her mid seventies.

While attending the University of Illinois in Urbana, he open bowled at the student union where he was noticed and  approached by some student bowlers, and asked if he was interested in joining the bowling team.  He was surprised, he did not know they had a bowling team,  signed up, and bowled with them for two and a half years.  They bowled in several national tournaments, placing 2nd in 1993 and 3rd in 1994 at Sams Town Invitational.

After graduation, Tom  took a job in Hillsboro, Oregon, where he bowled in two leagues including the Portland Traveling All-Stars League. He also coached the youth program while there.

Since returning to the Joliet Area Tom has bowled in at least two leagues a year, and bowls in many tournaments.  His average has been consistently in the 220 and above range, with his high lifetime average being 240.  He has had a total or 20 certified 300 games, four 299 games and eight 800 series, with the high being 855.

Tom was on the Strike Shop team, that won the scratch championship in the Joliet Area USBC BA Tournament in 2010, 2011, and 2013.  He claimed the Scratch All Events title in 2013 and 2014.  A regular in the Will County Open, his top finish was 3rd place in 2008.  He is also 2014 Doubles champion of the Illinois Central Tournament.     Tom has placed twice on the Jolliet Area Court, 9th in 2006-2007, and 3rd in 2012-2013.

A licensed professional chemical engineer who works for Diamond Technical Services, he has been a contract project manager at he ExxonMobil Joliet Refinery for the last seven years.  When not working or bowling, in the summertime he enjoys golf.

Tom is married to Maria, who bowls in two leagues.  On their first date they went bowling at Town & Country Lanes.  They have two children, Sicilia, 17, and Thomas, 15, who both bowled in youth leagues and  on their respective Minooka High School teams.

Tom gives thanks to the Strike Shop  for his equipment, and Al Hardesty for his coaching and support.
